There are pilots flying tonight whose names will never be in a book.
01 · The missing shelf
The same fifty people
The famous have theirs. The Wright Brothers have McCullough. Earhart has a hundred biographies. Sully has his memoir, well-deserved. But the shelves of every aviation museum on earth contain roughly the same fifty people, told roughly the same way, in roughly the same voice.
A Turkish girl named Sabiha Gökçen was the first woman to fly combat for any nation, in 1937, and almost no one outside Türkiye knows her name. A Soviet pilot named Lydia Litvyak shot down twelve enemy aircraft before she was killed at twenty-one in 1943, and her body was not found for thirty-six years; her mother died still hoping she might come home.
Cargo pilots fly the world’s economy across the Pacific in slippers and shorts and have never been written about with dignity. Air traffic controllers keep four hundred lives separate in their heads for an eight-hour shift and have never been thanked in print. There are pilots whose job is to land a helicopter on a highway in the dark to save a stranger they will never meet.
There are no books about them either.

Stories from the Skies
Pilots.gift began as a small e-commerce house, and along the way decided to make the books that didn’t exist.
The series is called Stories from the Skies. Each volume will be sixty-four pages, with abstract illustrations on every left page and restrained prose on every right, and each will ask a different question. The first, Flying High, asks who changed the skies. It is being written now. Later volumes will ask what happens when pilots are simply human, who moves the world’s goods through the night, who guides the aircraft down, and who comes when we need them most.
There will be more, for as long as there are stories left.
03 · The gift
The books will be free
Anyone who asks for one will receive it as a beautiful PDF that prints as well as it reads. No paywall. No premium tier. No subscription. The books are the work. The work is the gift.
The work is funded by a small shop. Today that shop is heavyweight tees for the days a logbook remembers. Over time, the art of each volume will find its way onto shirts and prints, and the printed editions may one day become the kind of heirloom given at retirements and captain promotions.
Pilots.gift is a small e-commerce house that funds itself by selling beautiful things to the people its books have moved.

04 · The voice
Written by no one
There will be no byline on the spine. The imprint speaks in one voice, the way a classic series does: as a tradition, not as a person. Quiet, restrained, internationally curious, never sentimental, never proud. The subjects belong to themselves. The books exist only to carry them somewhere they have not yet been carried.
05 · Your stories
Written, in part, by the world it is about
A community of readers will help shape what comes next. Pilots write in with their own stories. Families share what their person did. Controllers, mechanics, dispatchers, flight attendants: everyone with something to say about aviation as a human enterprise has a place to send it. Contributors will be named in the credits, the way a film credits its sources.
