Comfort Colors 9018. Midweight 6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed so the color lives in the fiber. Classic youth fit, soft new, softer every wash.

For the little pilot who would stay up all day if bedtime allowed it. Born to Fly in bold yellow and blue on a pair of wings, and Forced to Land just below.

About the design

A kids’ aviation t-shirt with the line Born to Fly, Forced to Land: bold yellow, blue and red lettering on a pair of wings over a runway numbered 27. Printed small on the Comfort Colors 9018 garment-dyed youth tee in sizes XS to XL, a gift for future pilots and aviation families.

The kids’ tee

Our kids’ tees are printed on the Comfort Colors 9018, the youth version of our adult tee: 6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed after it is sewn, so the color settles into the fiber and the shirt feels soft on the first day, not the tenth. The collar is a topstitched rib and twill tape runs shoulder to shoulder, so it keeps its shape through a lot of washing. The fit is classic rather than slim, cut for a child who moves. It has already done most of its shrinking before it reaches you. A small gift for a future pilot, or for the child of one.

Shipping & returns

Care and fade

Most of our kids' colors are pigment-dyed, which is what gives them their depth and their slightly uneven, lived-in surface; a few, Black among them, use reactive dye instead. Pigment dye is meant to move: it will lighten a little over the first few washes, then settle. Wash cold, inside out, with like colors, and tumble dry low. Skip the bleach and skip the fabric softener, which coats the cotton and works against the softness. Shade variation between one garment and the next, and between the color on your screen and the one that arrives, is inherent to pigment dyeing.

Fit and sizing

The 9018 is a classic youth fit: straight through the body, not slim. Between sizes, take the larger one; children grow into a tee faster than they wear one out. Garment dyeing means most of the shrinkage has already happened. The measurements below are the garment laid flat: body length from the highest point of the shoulder straight down, and chest width across the chest one inch below the armhole — double it for the full circumference. Youth XS fits about ages 4 to 5, S ages 6 to 7, M ages 8 to 10, L ages 11 to 13 and XL ages 14 to 16, as a rough guide.
